PAKISTAN GROUND ATTACK AGAINST TALIBAN
The Pakistani military will soon launch a major ground attack in in the northwest region of South Waziristan to drive out the Taliban. The military has been bombing targets in South Waziristan for months and announced two weeks ago that it would forge ahead with a ground campaign. Since that announcement, Pakistan has been rocked by a series of terrorist attacks, including suicide bombings, that have left more than 170 people dead.

VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN TRAVELS TO EASTERN EUROPE
Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic from Tuesday through Thursday to shore up relations with allies concerned over a recent U.S. decision to scuttle plans for a Eastern Europe-based missile defense shield. The trip is another in a series of domestic and foreign visits that Biden has embraced as he defines his role as vice president.
